The area of Langhe is rich in history and culture and there is architecture from the ninth century up to the present day. There are museums in almost every town, of which worthy of note are the small towns of Alba, Bra and Cherasco where the centers are historically intact.

The hills, that make up the larger part of the territory, are often dominated by ancient defensive castles built around 1200 (eg Serralunga d’ Alba) but the majority are from the Middle Ages where they were the administrative centers and homes of the landowner or more recently the summer residence of the royal family of Savoy.

The majority of castles can be visited although some are still privately owned. Often they are now home to museums and wine shops where special events take place . The most important ones are: Royal Castle of Govone, Castle of the Marquis Falletti in Barolo, Castle of count Benso in Grinzane Cavour, Castle of the Count Alfieri before and after the royal Savoy in Magliano Alfieri , Castle of the Marquis Busca in Mango, Castle of the count Beraudo in Pralormo and castle of the count Falletti in Serralunga d’Alba.

The area is excellent for activities such as hiking, horse riding, tennis, golf, swimming, visits to museums and concerts. In the summer the area is alive with local festivals based on food and wine. The area is renowned for its food – specialties include truffles, chocolate, hazelnuts.

Only a few kilometers away you can discover the historical towns of Asti (renowned for the September Palio), Bra (home to the Slow Food movement) and Cherasco.

Events, manifestations, fairs

In this area, every month, every week and at some times each day of the year there are events either cultural or based on food and wine.

Many are also traditional manifestations e.g. fairs of all different types and exhibitions of typical products. In particular in summer all the towns have their own festivals based on food and wine. Within the squares and streets of the towns the visitors are spoilt for choice with the vast array of food and typical wines available to taste: walking down the streets typical local produces can be purchased: cheese, salami, hazelnuts, nougat, chocolate…. The slow food movement, which originated in Bra and is still home to its head office, organises every 2 years the Cheese Event.

The agreements drawn up with “trattorie”, restaurants, precious wineshops, confectioneries, small producers of local products, will allow you discounted prices, but, even more important, they will give you the possibility to know the best this area offers.

The sea and the coast of Liguria are about 100 km.
